Our Story CR8 (Create) : BLK (Black)

CR8:BLK was initially started in 2016 by Rebekah Frimpong and Leah Keturah Caesar. Both Rebekah and Leah were filmmakers originally from Philadelphia, PA looking for a new film project to work on together. These two ladies came up with CR8:BLK as a web series documenting the work of Black and African contemporary artists. The web series also was going to document the role Black and African curators play in pushing forth Black Art. Sadly, in October 2017, Leah (known as "Keturah") passed away from cancer. Ironically, Rebekah completed a short film called Sunset about a woman facing a cancer diagnosis in 2017 and dedicated it to Leah “Keturah”.  Now fast forwarding to June 2018, CR8:BLK will be rebooted in the legacy of Keturah. Rebekah has for 15 years help inspire children and young artists to create. Now CR8:BLK will be established as a non-profit organization that will foster this vision further with a focus spotlight on women of the Black/African Contemporary Art and Film community in greater Philadelphia area, Washington, DC, and throughout the African Diaspora.
